Meta Ads cost in India: what you actually pay

There is no price list for Meta ads. You set a budget, and an auction decides what each view costs. Here is what one real Indian account paid, how budgets and GST work, and how to work out your own number.

Short answer: There is no fixed cost of Meta ads in India. You choose the budget, and Meta’s auction sets the cost of each view. In one real account we ran, 1,000 impressions cost ₹16.19, a click cost about ₹1.92 and an enquiry cost ₹29.14, across ₹23,570.47 of spend. GST is added on top.

This guide covers Meta ads cost in India from every side: Facebook ads cost, Instagram ads cost, cost per click, cost per lead, daily and monthly budgets, GST and agency fees. Every number comes from an ad account we ran or from Meta’s own help pages.

Meta ads pricing terms you will see

Ads Manager reports cost in several ways. These are the ones that matter for a business in India.

Term What it means Formula
CPM Cost per 1,000 impressions Amount spent ÷ impressions × 1,000
CPC Cost per click Amount spent ÷ clicks
CTR Click-through rate Clicks ÷ impressions
CPL Cost per lead, or cost per enquiry Amount spent ÷ leads
CPA Cost per action, such as a purchase Amount spent ÷ actions
ROAS Return on ad spend Revenue from ads ÷ amount spent

Meta calls whatever you optimise for a “result”, so Ads Manager shows most of these as “cost per result”.

How the Meta ad auction sets your price

You never pay a set price per ad. Each time there is a chance to show someone an ad, Meta runs an auction among the ads whose target audience includes that person. Billions of these auctions happen every day.

The winner is not simply the highest bid. Meta picks the ad with the highest total value, which combines three things:

  1. Your bid. What you are willing to pay for the result you chose.
  2. Estimated action rates. How likely this person is to engage with or act on your ad.
  3. Ad quality. Meta judges this from feedback, such as people hiding the ad, and from low-quality signs like clickbait or withheld information.

Because estimated action rates and ad quality add up to relevance, Meta says a more relevant ad can win an auction against ads with higher bids. In Meta’s words, ads that are more relevant cost less and see more results. That is the single biggest lever on your Meta ads cost.

You can check relevance in Ads Manager. Meta’s ad relevance diagnostics rank each ad on quality, engagement rate and conversion rate against ads competing for the same audience. They appear once an ad has 500 impressions.

How Meta charges for ads

You tell Meta how much you want to spend, and the auction decides what each impression costs inside that budget. You tell Meta how much you want to spend, and Meta runs an auction each time someone could see your ad. Meta says the cost depends on things like your audience, the quality of your ad, your bid strategy and your campaign objective.

Two rules from Meta’s pricing page:

  • Daily budgets flex. On some days Meta can spend up to 75% more than your daily budget. Across a week, it will not spend more than seven times the daily budget.
  • Lifetime budgets are a ceiling. The total cost stays inside the budget you set.
  • Spend is paced. Meta spreads spend over the schedule, so if auctions are expensive on day one it holds budget back for cheaper results later in the week.
Daily budget ₹1,000 +75% ₹1,750₹600₹1,200₹800₹1,150₹500 MonTueWedThuFriSatSun
An example week at ₹1,000 a day. One day runs 75% over, others run under, and the week still totals ₹7,000.

So the real question is what each result costs inside the budget you set.

Facebook ads cost vs Instagram ads cost

Facebook and Instagram ads are bought in the same Ads Manager and priced by the same auction, so there is no separate Instagram price list. What differs is who you reach on each and how they respond, which changes your cost per result.

Meta recommends Advantage+ placements, which let one campaign run across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and send budget to wherever the most relevant people are. Limiting an ad to a single platform gives the auction fewer chances to find cheap results.

Boosting a post vs Ads Manager

Boosting turns an existing post into an ad with a few simple settings. Ads Manager gives you the full set: the campaign objective, the audience, placements, bid strategy, lead forms and call or WhatsApp destinations. A boost is fine for reach on a single post. To pay for enquiries or sales, set the campaign up in Ads Manager, because that is where you choose what Meta optimises for.

What one real account paid

These are the lifetime totals of one Meta Ads account we ran for a family-run distributor, read straight from Ads Manager on 15 August 2026.

Measure This account What it means
Amount spent ₹23,570.47 Across 16 campaigns
Impressions 1,456,055 Times an ad was shown
Cost per 1,000 impressions (CPM) ₹16.19 The price of being seen
People reached 1,086,178 Different accounts that saw an ad
Clicks (all) 12,287 Every click on an ad
Cost per click ₹1.92 Spend divided by clicks
Click-through rate 0.84% Clicks divided by impressions
Enquiries 809 431 calls, 245 forms, 133 WhatsApp chats
Cost per enquiry ₹29.14 Spend divided by enquiries

Two things stand out. The views were cheap: ₹16.19 for every 1,000. And 6.6% of clicks turned into an enquiry. That is why the page people land on, and how fast someone answers, matter as much as the ad.

We count calls, forms and chats together. Count only one of them and the number stops telling you what the ads are worth. The full breakdown, with all the screenshots, is in our case study.

Meta ads cost per lead in India

In the account above, the cost per lead was ₹29.14. That figure counts every lead type: 431 calls, 245 instant form leads and 133 WhatsApp chats. Many accounts report only form leads, which makes their cost per lead look different from ours even when the ads perform the same.

Treat any cost per lead you read online, including ours, as one data point. The business, the offer, the city and the follow-up all move it. The lead form vs landing page guide shows how the choice of form alone changed this account.

Meta ads cost per day and per month

From running small accounts, we treat ₹1,000 a day as the floor. Below that, Meta gets too little each day to learn who responds, and the account keeps guessing. If your budget is under ₹30,000 a month, spend it at ₹1,000 a day and let it run out early, rather than stretching it thin across thirty days. You get a clear read in two or three weeks instead of a weak one across the month.

Daily budget 30 days 30 days with 18% GST
₹500 ₹15,000 ₹17,700
₹1,000 ₹30,000 ₹35,400
₹2,000 ₹60,000 ₹70,800
₹5,000 ₹1,50,000 ₹1,77,000

This is ad spend only. If a Meta Ads agency runs the account, its fee is separate.

What budget should a small business start with?

Two rules set the starting budget for a small business in India.

Meta’s rule: your daily budget should be at least 10 times the average cost of the result you optimise for. If a lead costs you ₹150, Meta’s guidance puts the daily budget at ₹1,500 or more. Below that, the ad set struggles to get the roughly 50 results a week it needs to leave the learning phase.

Our floor: never below ₹1,000 a day per ad set, even when the 10 times rule says less.

Your cost per lead Meta’s 10× daily minimum 30 days
₹50 ₹1,000 (our floor) ₹30,000
₹150 ₹1,500 ₹45,000
₹300 ₹3,000 ₹90,000
₹500 ₹5,000 ₹1,50,000

If those numbers are above what you can spend, change what you optimise for instead of starving the ad set. Meta suggests a result higher up the funnel, such as landing page views instead of conversions. Run one ad set well rather than three ad sets badly, and keep awareness and sales campaigns running side by side from day one, so the audience builds while sales already come in.

GST on Meta ads in India

Meta bills advertisers in India through its Indian company, in rupees, and says these transactions are subject to Indian GST. GST on advertising services is 18%.

If 18% GST is added to the account above, the ₹29.14 per enquiry becomes about ₹34.38. A GST-registered business may be able to claim this back as input tax credit. Check with your CA.

What makes Meta ads cost more

Your cost per result moves when any of these change:

  • Who you target. Stacking many interests and behaviours narrows the audience, and a narrow audience costs more to reach.
  • The ad itself. Meta lists ad quality as a cost factor. A weak opening or a vague offer means fewer clicks for the same spend.
  • Your objective. Optimise calls for volume and you get people who were never buying. Optimise for sales and they arrive fewer and better.
  • What happens after the click. A slow page, or a form nobody follows up, raises the cost of every real customer, even when the ad numbers look fine.
  • The learning phase. Meta says ad sets are less stable and usually have a higher cost per result until they get about 50 results in a week. Every significant edit restarts it.
  • Your own ad sets competing. When two of your ad sets target the same people, Meta lets only one of your ads into each auction. Meta calls this auction overlap, and it can stop an ad set from spending or leaving the learning phase.

How to lower your Meta ads cost

These come from Meta’s own guidance, plus what we saw in the account above.

  1. Raise relevance. Check quality, engagement and conversion rate rankings, and fix the creative or the offer when they sit below average.
  2. Combine similar ad sets. Fewer ad sets with bigger budgets reach 50 results a week sooner and stop competing with each other.
  3. Stop unnecessary edits. Each significant edit restarts learning and its higher costs.
  4. Give the audience room. A larger audience gives the auction more chances to find cheaper results.
  5. Use realistic budgets. Meta warns that very small budgets give the system too little to optimise on.
  6. Optimise for lead quality, not just volume. Meta reports that lead ads using its qualified leads goal with a CRM connection through the Conversions API saw a 21% lower cost per quality lead than ads optimised only for lead volume.
  7. Answer leads fast. A lead you call within the hour costs the same as one you call tomorrow, but it is far more likely to buy.

If your ads stop spending altogether, that is a different problem. Our guide on Meta ads not spending budget walks through Meta’s checks.

Cost per lead formula: work out your own number

Online ranges average every industry and budget, so they cannot predict your account. Your own numbers can. In Ads Manager:

  1. Cost per enquiry (cost per lead) = amount spent ÷ enquiries. Count calls, forms and chats together.
  2. Cost per click = amount spent ÷ clicks.
  3. Enquiry rate = enquiries ÷ clicks. In the account above it was 6.6%.
  4. Enquiries a budget buys = budget ÷ your cost per enquiry. If your account shows ₹150 per enquiry, ₹30,000 buys about 200.

Use your own number in step 4, not ours. Ours came from one business, one offer and one market.

CPL, CAC and LTV: will the ads pay?

Cost per lead alone cannot tell you if Meta ads work. Read it with CAC and LTV.

Number Formula What it tells you
CPL, cost per lead Ad spend ÷ enquiries What one enquiry costs. ₹29.14 in the account above.
CAC, customer acquisition cost Ad spend, plus any agency fee, ÷ new customers What one paying customer costs
LTV, lifetime value Profit per order × orders per customer What one customer is worth to you

Your close rate, the share of enquiries that buy, links them: CAC = CPL ÷ close rate.

Here is an example built on this account’s ₹29.14. If 1 in 10 enquiries buys, each customer costs about ₹291 in ads. If that customer brings ₹2,000 profit per order and orders three times, their LTV is ₹6,000, about 20 times what they cost.

The ads stop paying when CAC climbs above LTV. So a good cost per lead is one that keeps CAC below LTV:

Most you can pay per lead = LTV × close rate.

ProfitLoss ₹29 this account₹600 break-even₹900 ₹0₹600₹1,000
Example: a customer worth ₹6,000 (LTV) and 1 in 10 enquiries buying. Up to ₹600 per lead, the ads pay for themselves.

Raise LTV with repeat orders, and you can afford to pay more per lead.

Agency fees vs ad spend

Ad spend goes to Meta. An agency fee pays for the work: the campaigns, the landing page, the tracking and the follow-up setup. Keep the two apart on paper, so you can see what the platform took and what the agency did with it. Add the fee to ad spend when you work out CAC, or your cost per customer will look lower than it really is.

How we run accounts, and what is included, is on our Meta Ads agency page.

Whatever you set. At our ₹1,000-a-day floor, a month costs ₹30,000, or ₹35,400 with 18% GST. Under that budget, spend at ₹1,000 a day and let it run out early rather than stretching it.

Can I run Meta ads for free?

No. Every ad on Facebook and Instagram is paid, including a boosted post.

What is the minimum budget to run Meta ads?
